|Course objective: |
|Main aim of the course is to acquaint students with selected methods and models for managerial decision making support and help them in real applications in their managerial practice. The studens work with current software tools for optimization and decision making support.|
Lecture notes followed by seminars.
|Course content: |
|1.||Introduction to operations research (allowance 2/2)|
Mathematical modelling. Phases of decision process.
|b.||Basic OR fields.|
|Applications of OR models.|
|Linear programming (allowance 8/8)|
Linear programming (LP) - mathematical models. Basic definitions of LP. Graphical solution of LP problems.
|b.||Typical applications of LP models. Software tools for LP problems, interpretation of results (reduced costs, shadow prices, etc.). Special cases in solving LP problems.|
|c.||Sensitivity analysis of LP solutions. Integer LP problems and their solving.|
Transportation problem - definition and mathematical models. Initial basis solution - northwest corner method, matrix minimum method.
Distribution problems - container transportation problem, assignment problem, travelling salesman problem, generalized distribution problem, covering problem.

|a.||Basic definitions. Optimization problems on graphs - shortest path problem, minimal spanning tree problem, maximal flow problem.|
Project management - construction of network for project management.

Basic definitions. Deterministic inventory models - economic order quantity (EOQ) model.
Deterministic inventory models - production order quantity (POQ) model, EOQ model with quantity discounts.
Stochastic inventory models.

|Structure of a waiting line system. Basic definitions.|
Single-server exponential waiting line model.
Optimization in multi-server exponential waiting line model.

|After completing the course, student:|
Will apply mathematical modelling procedures to elementary decision-making and optimization tasks
Will describe elementary managerial problems that can be addressed effectively through optimization
Will interpret and break down obtained results, including the verification and validation of the model used
