Course objective:
The aim is to get students acquainted with basic statistical tools for quality control.
Course methods:
Lectures and seminars alternating once in a fortnight. A project on assigned data with the theme of statistical process control and process capability analysis. In the full-time form a midterm test in the last seminar, in the part-time form in the 2.block.

Course content:
Pareto analysis (allowance 2/2)
a.Classification and summarization of categorical variables.
Considering importance of causes by means of scores
Pareto principle

Acceptance sampling (allowance 2/2)
a.Basis of acceptance sampling. Types of sampling.
Attribute acceptance sampling. Plans based on AQL.
System of acceptance plans.

Statistical process control. (allowance 4/4)
Basis of process control. Types of control.
b.Control by variables. Control chart for average and range. Chart for average and standard deviation. Chart for individuals.
Control by attributes. Control chart for number of nonconforming. Chart for fraction nonconforming. Chart for number of nonconformities. Chart for average number of nonconformities per unit.

4.Process capability. (allowance 2/2)
Inherent and permitted variation.
Process capability index.
Capability vs performance indices.

Hypothesis testing. (allowance 4/4)
Comparison of two groups of results. Hypothesis test for two means. Test for two variances. Test for two proportions.
b.Comparison of several groups of results. Analysis of variance.

Learning outcomes and competences:
After completing the course, student:
Will be able to explain the basis of statistical process control, choose a suitable type of the Shewhart chart for a given case, apply the chart and interpret the results
Will be able to express the quality level of a process by means of capability indices
-Will be able to choose and apply a single attribute acceptance sampling plan
-Will be able to identify the most important causes of problems through the Pareto chart

89 -80 - very good
