Course title: Macroeconomics - Intermediate Course

Course objective:
The goal of the intermediate course is to establish understanding of how the macroeconomy operates and to develop a coherent theoretical framework for thinking about the determination of macroeconomic variables.After completing the course, students should be able to think critically about macroeconomic problems and analyze macroeconomic policy.
 
Course methods: The full-time course of MACROECONOMICS II consists of lectures and seminars. The part-time courses are based on tutorial sessions and individual tuitions with an individial lecturer.
 
Course content:
1.Macroeconomic Environment of Business. Data of macroeconomics -- source and information value. Basic and Chain Indexes. (allowance 2/2)
2.Economic growth. Ecoconomic growth theories. Factors of economic growth. Potential output. Economic cycle. System of National Accounts. Macroeconomic equilibriums. Application of macroeconomic indicators. (allowance 2/2)
3.Stabilization Policy. Model of Aggregate Supply and Aggregate Demand. Short-term and long-term Aggregate Supply. Internal Balance. Goals of Macroeconomic Policy. (allowance 2/2)
4.Money and Inflation. Advantage and Disadvantage of Inflation. Inflationary and Disinflationary Policy. Monetary policy. Monetary Policy Regimes. Monetary Policy today. (allowance 2/2)
5.Fiscal Policy. Public Budget - revenues and expenditures. Public Debt. Public Finance Reforms. (allowance 2/2)
6.The Open Economy. Foreign Trade. International Finance. Balance of Payments. Exchange Rate. Exchange Rate Regimes. External Balance. Economic integration.Stabilization Policy in Open Economy. (allowance 2/2)
7.Labor Market. Unemployment. Phillips curve. (allowance 2/2)
 
Learning outcomes and competences:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to
- collect relevant information on development of an economy
- evaluate the stance and development of on economy
- apply the macroeconomic theories
- judge the effect of applied macroeconomic policies on an economy
- use economic knowledge to prepare business strategy of a company
- identify business risks and opportunities in an economic development

Course completion:
The course is completed by final test.
The students are evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:
1. Class participation and active contribution to the seminars including the reading of the assigned materials (10 points)
2. Two mid-term tests; maximum score in each test is 20 point (40 points in total)
3. Final test -- maximum score 50 points

The mid-term exams take place in the course of a semester at prearranged date and time. Students are allowed only one attempt to pass the semi-final test. The minimal admission limit to the final exam is 34 points raised in the semester. If the minimum passing score is not reached, the student fails the course.

The minimum passing score on the final test is 60 % (30 points). If the minimum passing score is not reached, the student fails the course.
